OC&C Strategy Consulting has appointed a new partner in Greater China specialising in retail.
pascal-martinPascal Martin, who will be based in Hong Kong, brings over 27 years of experience, with 15 years in management consulting and more than 12 years in leadership roles in sportswear, luxury and fashion retail, as well as in the automobile industry, spanning the US, Europe and Asia.Martin joins OC&C from AJ&P Ltd, where he advised companies on their Asian business, as well as private equity investors active in Asia. At this time, he was also a senior advisor to the consumer and retail practice of McKinsey & Company in Asia.
He has worked previously as a director at Nissan Motor and as president at Adidas Japan and held senior management roles as VP of strategy for Asia at Burberry, Asia regional director at Marks & Spencer, and briefly as chief commercial officer at Avon Japan when it was a portfolio company of the Private Equity firm TPG.
Martin will work alongside Jack Chuang, partner, Greater China to advise clients across Asia, mainly in the retail and consumer goods sectors, to develop successful business strategies for the firm’s clients. He will also serve the private equity sector which is primarily located in Hong Kong.
“Having worked in multiple Asian markets over two decades, I have learned to appreciate the differences in business culture and consumer behaviour that exist across these markets, and to understand the specific channel dynamics and digital ecosystems prevalent in each market. I am excited to bring this experience to OC&C and, in return, to be able to tap into OC&C’s world class capabilities in strategy development and operations improvement in the retail and consumer goods sectors.”
Jack Chuang said the appointment came at a time when international brands were exiting the China market because they did not have the right business strategy.
“We believe that brands/businesses looking to expand into China and elsewhere in Asia could greatly accelerate their understanding of market dynamics and their development of solid expansion scenarios through advice from industry experts. In this way they will be able to make winning long-term decisions for their business model and forge successful partnerships in Asia.”
