LeTao dessert chain arriving at Ion Orchard

Move over, baked cheese tarts – LeTao dessert chain from Japan is about to introduce double-layered fromage cheesecake to Singapore.

Featuring a layer of baked cheesecake topped with unbaked cheesecake, the signature dish features mascarpone from Ambrosi, based in the Lombardy region in northern Italy, along with cream, wheat and eggs from Hokkaido. There is also a Chocolat Double cake, a chocolate version of the double fromage.

Other highlights include Royale Montagne, pyramid-shaped chocolates made from a blend of Darjeeling tea and chocolate; Venezia Rendezvous, a mascarpone creme-brulee tart made with Hokkaido cream; and Ironai, langue de chat cheese cookies.

Once Upon a Milkshake founder Alvin Ng is bringing in the Le Tao brand. He came across it while on his honeymoon in Japan in 2010, and sealed a deal last year.

“I had approached the brand earlier, but it was not keen on expanding then,” he says. “I was impressed not only by the double fromage, but also the quality and range of LeTaoi’s other products.”

LeTao launched in the port city of Otaru in 1998, and has branches in Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei. It will open a takeaway kiosk at Ion Orchard’s Basement 1 on December 8 – the same mall that has an outlet featuring baked cheese tarts, also from Hokkaido.
