CU chain sets up BGF Post for deliveries

Korean convenience store chain CU, run by BGF Retail, has set up its own parcel delivery service unit, BGF Post.

It has pulled out of the CVS Net delivery service it jointly established with convenience store chain GS25, which plans to run the service independently, reports the Korea Economic Daily.

This is because of healthy growth in the number of convenience store shoppers using parcel delivery services.

Established last week, the CU subsidiary specialises in convenience store parcel deliveries and was set up, says company officials, “as part of an effort to distinguish our service from those offered by other convenience store chains”, as well as to explore business opportunities.

The number of shoppers using such delivery services has expanded from 1 million in 2001 to more than 10 million in 2012, and thereafter has achieved double-digit growth.
