Se-ed bookstore seeks to hire seniors

In the age of Kindle and digital content, Thailand’s Se-ed bookstore has put out a call for new staff members at least 60 years old.

On its Facebook page, the franchise reveals that in a trial project of recruiting elderly staff it discovered the seniors were more interested in the job, more responsible and more passionate about recommending books to customers. Now it is seeking more aged candidates who have a passion and love for books, reports Coconuts Bangkok.

“Some people think that a job at a bookshop is just a job, but for me it’s a job I want to go to every day because it gives me a reason to live and the ability to support myself,” says one of the senior staff members in the trial program.

Se-ed bookstore also says its customers appreciate staff with lifelong experience, and as Thailand is becoming an aging society, many retirees still prefer to work and need income.

The company says society should give them jobs suitable to their ages — jobs that let them share their life lessons.
