Quolofune sets up shop in Causeway Bay

Japanese confectionary brand Quolofune has established a presence in Hong Kong with a concession in Sogo department store in Causeway Bay.

The outlet offers traditional Japanese confections including the brand’s signature Castella sponge cake.

CEO Takashi Araki of the Nagasakido Group, which owns the brand, says the brand will Hong Kong as a base to expand to other countries in Asia such as Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

“Hong Kong is strategically located at the heart of Asia, as well as being one of the world’s leading business hubs. This city will help us spread our brand more effectively to millions of travellers from around the globe.”
Nagasakido, founded in 1919, established Quolofune in Osaka in 2003. Its signature Castella sponge cake was first introduced to Japan from Portugal in the 16th century and has been modified to suit Japanese tastes, becoming a traditional Japanese confection in the process. The group has three Quolofune shops in Shanghai and one shop each in Korea and Taiwan.
