BreadTalk Myanmar opens in Junction City Yangon

BreadTalk Myanmar has launched its first outlet, at Junction City shopping mall in downtown Yangon.

Marketing manager Sy Myat Noe says the branch of the Asian boutique bakery chain served more than 20,000 customers in one month after its soft launch on March 25, and has queues every day.
She says 70 per cent of the customers are locals, with expatriates accounting for the balance.
“Our open-kitchen concept sets us apart from other bakeries in this country,” says Noe. “Customers can watch the entire baking process.”

Able to seat about 120 customers, the outlet offers more than 100 types of fresh bread and cakes. Most of the company’s key ingredients are imported, including milled flour from Japan and butter from New Zealand.

Run by Myanmar Bakery, a member of the Shwe Taung Group, the outlet has has more than 40 staff members. The country head is the only expatriate in the team.

Noe says 20 staff members were trained as bakers in Singapore for three months leading up to the store’s opening. With 800 outlets across key markets such as China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, Myanmar is the brand’s 17th territory.

There are plans for expansion.
