Esprit retail takes fresh look at India

Four years after weak sales forced Esprit retail to exit India, company executives have been back scouting mall locations.

Esprit is also said to be in talks with online fashion retailer Myntra about opening an Esprit-branded physical store. Myntra already sells Esprit products online through an exclusive deal signed late last year.

Myntra started physical retailing early this year with its acquisition of the online and brick-and-mortar retailing rights for Spain’s Mango from existing franchisees, DLF Brands and Major Brands.

Esprit retail entered India in 2005 in a distribution partnership with Aditya Birla Group, but poor business growth led the company to quit India in 2013.

Esprit has more than 700 retail stores and 6000 points of sale in 40 countries.
