Afternoon tea has become even more fashionable at Hotel Icon’s Chinese restaurant Above & Beyond in a collaboration with local fashion brand Loom Loop.

Each weekend between June 10 and July 30, an exclusive afternoon tea will feature specially crafted pastries from chef Danny Ho, inspired by Loom Loop designs.

“The creativity in the dishes is so in keeping with the style and philosophy of Loom Loop,” says founder/designer Polly Ho. “It’s great to work with a restaurant that champions local brands and supports Asian design.”

Each dining guest will receive an exclusive gift from Loom Loop, which has created a card holder exclusively for Above & Beyond featuring a forest-green and navy-blue design, mirroring the theme of its latest collection, which pays homage to an ancient Chinese legend. The legend tells a love story about a cowherd and a fairy. Their love was not allowed so they were banished to either sides of the Silver River, and once a year a group of magpies would form a bridge allowing the lovers to reconnect, hence a running magpie motif in the fashion collection.

Above & Beyond’s collaboration with Loom Loop highlights the Chinese heritage and modern aesthetics they both embody, as well as furthering their respective commitments and dedication to supporting home-grown talent and the local community.

To reflect the bold prints and colours of Polly Ho’s latest Loom Loop collection, Danny Ho has prepared desserts with equally bold designs, while executive chef Paul Tsui presents such savoury highlights as Pork Dumpling with Shrimp, a traditional Cantonese dish served in his signature contemporary style, and Crispy Taro Cake with Diced Abalone and Smoked Egg with Oolong Tea Leaves.

Sweets include Steamed Bun with Almond Custard, Black Forest Cake with Iron Buddha Tea, and Eclair with Blueberry Cream.
