Resorts World shops may reopen

Resorts World shops may reopen this weekend according to news reports, but the casino will remain closed while repairs continue following last week’s devastating attack.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into how a lone gunman, an apparent gambling addict, got into the venue with a machine gun, setting fire to casino tables and shooting into the ceiling, causing mass panic.

Thirty-seven people at the casino lost their lives, from smoke inhalation or burns, along with the gunman who apparently committed suicide in a hotel room.

Resorts World COO Stephen Reilly told ANC’s Headstart that there are no plans as yet to reopen the gaming facilities.

“It’s insensitive to do so. We’ll be looking to open up the retail component by the end of this weekend.”

Resorts World has 114 retail stores along with cinemas.

Reilly said the management is reviewing security protocols following the attack, conceding “weakness”.
