Li Da Foods using Hong Kong as base for expansion

Singapore’s Li Da Foods has set up a food factory in Hong Kong as the spearhead of a global expansion plan.

In Kwun Ton, the 3000 sqft (278 sqm) plant includes a central kitchen for preparing meal orders for online customers. They make their choice on the website of food-delivery service AMGD, and their order is sent to the customer’s doorstep.

AMGD’s eclectic menu features artisanal sauces and condiments, as well as protein-packed meals with plenty of greens, and superfoods such as nuts and fruits.

Li Da Foods co-founder Rita Zahara says digital booking allows the company to plan manpower and ingredients in advance to save costs and improve efficiency.

She says Hong Kong’s easy business environment, strong logistics infrastructure and international status are among the factors behind the company’s choice to set up there first. “As a large part of our business relies on quick and efficient delivery, Hong Kong’s sophisticated and convenient logistics infrastructure plays a key role in our business strategy.

“Both Hong Kong and Singapore share a lot in common in terms of food market and culture, as well as an easy business environment like a low and simple tax regime. These similarities give us a very good head start in establishing our international springboard in Hong Kong.”

A food-tech company, Li Da Foods aims to disrupt the F&B industry with innovation and technology. The company creates its own brands.
