Facebook hits two billion users worldwide

Posting on his Facebook page early this morning, Mark Zuckerberg announced the social media network has reached two billion users worldwide.

His message reads:

As of this morning, the Facebook community is now officially 2 billion people! We’re making progress connecting the world, and now let’s bring the world closer together. It’s an honor to be on this journey with you.

To celebrate the milestone, Facebook is thanking people in their News Feed when they “love” a post, wish someone a happy birthday, or start a Group, and sharing stories of people who give back to their local communities.

According to the social network, every day more than 175 million people share a love reaction and over 800 million people like something on Facebook. Over one billion people use a Group every month.

In addition to individual users, more than 60 million businesses have a Facebook page and four million businesses actively advertise through the platform.

Facebook continues to roll out new ad formats on a regular basis and is exploring new ways to support business users, including through messenger chatbots and artificial intelligence.
