Tech retailer Harvey Norman Malaysia is expanding in the east, signing up to open an anchor store at Vivacity Megamall in Kuching.

Harvey Norman is the fourth anchor tenant for the mall, with an outlet spanning almost 47,000 sqft (4366 sqm).

Harvey Norman Malaysia has been handling more than 10,000 online transactions from customers in East Malaysia, says Harvey Norman Asia MD Kenneth Aruldoss.

At the signing ceremony for its new Vivacity store, he said the company was stepping up its online offering “in a very big way”.

“We will provide consumers in Kuching an experience of online shopping and in-store shopping as well, a combination that will ensure a seamless experience.”

Customers using Harvey Norman’s “click and collect” service, will be able to order online then pick up their purchases in the store, scheduled to open in November.

Founded in Australia, Harvey Norman launched in Malaysia in 2003 and has a network of a dozen stores in the country’s west. The retailer plans to eventually expand to between 45 and 50 stores.

Meanwhile, Harvey Norman is seeking expansion opportunities in Singapore. Its product range embraces home-entertainment systems, computing technology and innovative home appliances.
