Superdry parent SuperGroup has revealed plans to launch a sportswear retail store network.
The first Superdry Sport-branded store will open in Grenoble in France in October.
The surprise announcement was made during the UK-headquartered company’s profit results briefing. It signals the company’s intention to expand its footprint beyond its traditional t-shirt and tops base into the fast-growing athleisure wear market.
Following the French launch, four more Superdry Sport stores will open by Christmas, before a more aggressive roll-out next year.
SuperGroup on Friday reported a record 53.1 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to £84.8 million for the year to April 29.
Sales rose 27.4 per cent to £752 million, largely fuelled by a 35 per cent growth in e-commerce sales and a 43.2 per cent increase in wholesale revenue.
