Alibaba Macau trademark secured

With its application for trademark protection accepted, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding can now work in Macau.

This means its brands including Alimebot and Ant Star can now create and commercialise products in Macau such as newspapers and magazines, credit and debit cards, scientific and nautical instruments, file-sharing software and GPS equipment.

Alibaba Macau branding is also cleared for advertising, running loyalty programs and incentives, business consulting, website optimisation, warehouse retail services and even insurance, financial and monetary businesses.

With more than 50,000 employees, Alibaba provides consumer-to-consumer, business-to-consumer and business-to-business sales services via web portals. It has just invested US$1 billion in Southeast Asian online retailer Lazada Group, increasing its stake to more than 80 per cent.
