Nitori China opening flagship in Shanghai

Japanese furniture and home decoration brand Nitori China will open a flagship store in Xujiahui, Shanghai.

It will be Nitori’s first flagship store in China after its brand re-design, and takes over an 8000 sqm location previously occupied by Best Buy.

Founded in 1967, Nitori is one of the largest home-supplies chains in Japan. It listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2002 and by the following year had more than 100 stores. Its main businesses include home decoration, house renovation and online shopping.

As part of its international expansion, Nitori entered China in 2004 with a logistics centre in Shanghai. It launched its online shopping business Nitori Net in September that year. Its first physical store for China opened in Wuhan, Hubei province, in 2014.

So far, Nitori has more than 10 stores in China in such cities as Hangzhou and Ningbo as well as Shanghai. It plans to have 100 stores in China by 2020.
