Third Starfield mall features water park

A water park is included in the third Starfield shopping mall of South Korean retail giant Shinsegae, being launched on the northern outskirts of Seoul next week.

“Our strongest competitor at the moment is online malls,” says Shinsegae Property chief Lim Young-lock. “We focussed on bringing people out to our mall.”

With two underground floors covering 364,000 sqm, the four-storey Starfield Goyang will open on Thursday. It will offer more than 560 brand shops plus 100-plus restaurants and the group’s warehouse-style supermarket E-Mart Traders.

Leisure activities include the Aquafield water park.

Shinsegae opened South Korea’s largest shopping theme park in Hanam, southeast of Seoul, in September which attracted more than 10 million visitors in its first five months. The company expects its three Starfields, including one in the Seoul Convention and Exhibition Center, to chalk up a combined 1.8 trillion won (US$1.5 billion) of revenue next year.
