Madam Kwan eyes Indonesian market

Malaysian diner Madam Kwan’s plans to head to Indonesia as it seeks expansion through franchising.

Run by Suez Top Ventures, the restaurant chain currently has eight outlets in shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur’s Klang Valley.

Suez CEO Maureen Ooi, who is (Madam) Kwan Sween Lian’s daughter-in-law, says the company is in the midst of discussions to take the brand to Indonesia.

Previously it opened a restaurant in Singapore, but has left the market citing “tough challenges”. This is when it came up with the strategy to enter new markets via franchising.

On the home front the brand expects to open another outlet in Mont Kiara in the first quarter of next year. It is already in 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Empire Shopping Gallery, Mid Valley Megamall, Pavilion KL, Sunway Pyramid and Suria KLCC, as well as in Genting Highlands Resort.

Meanwhile, the company has just launched a Madam Kwan recipe book, being sold at its restaurants.
