Hong Kong Customs have seized an estimated $330,000 worth of fake wallets during a raid in Kwun Tong.

Officers found 740 wallets in a short-term leased shop bearing sale signage in Kwun Tong after a tip-off from a member of the public.

After the investigation a 30-year-old male shop manager and a 35-year-old male salesperson were arrested. A spokesman said investigations are ongoing.

“Customs appeals to consumers to procure items at reputable shops and to check with trademark owners or their authorised agents if the authenticity of a product is in doubt,” the spokesman said.

“Customs also reminds traders to be cautious and prudent in merchandising since the sale of counterfeit goods is a serious crime and offenders are liable to criminal sanctions.’

Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person who sells or possesses for sale any goods with a forged trademark commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
