Carrefour China taking convenience route

Hypermarket company Carrefour China, while continuing to roll out its e-commerce business, is expanding its Carrefour Easy convenience stores.

In has opened nine so far this year as part of its multi-format omni-channel growth strategy.

With sales areas ranging from 100 to 250sqm, Carrefour Easy is breaking new ground in China with its format. Since launching in 2015, the banner now covers 30-plus stores in Shanghai plus an outpost in Wuxi in Jiangsu province.

As well as everyday food items, that can be eaten as well as taken away, the stores offer such services as on-site catering, mobile payments, Wi-Fi internet access, lottery tickets, mobile top-ups and photo printing.

Its latest additions have been in Shanghai in the Pudong business district, in Putuo and  in a new office and shop complex in Jing’an, the heart of the city.
