Customs officials are holding tens of thousands of pairs of allegedly fake Converse-branded shoes discovered at the port of Haiphong in northern Vietnam.
The footwear was in a group of 10 containers being transported from China to Laos via Vietnam.
Lao firm Phong Phi Phat Company shipped the containers to a company in Laos that is a branch of Melody Logistics in Hanoi. The Haiphong Customs Board has asked Melody Logistics and shipping firms to advise Phong Phi Phat to co-operate, but so far there has been no response from the owner of the containers.
Meanwhile, so the goods are being kept at the port awaiting legal processes.
Haiphong Customs says initial checks showed the shoes are fake, and the board has sent a document to the Lao Embassy in Vietnam explaining the reason for the goods being seized.
Nike Vietnam has confirmed that the shoes are not its product.
