Queues snaked outside the first Australian outlet for Singapore’s Hawker Chan when it opened in Melbourne’s CBD.
Touted as the world’s cheapest Michelin-starred eatery, it is a spin-off of hawker stall Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle, which was started by Chan Hon Meng at Chinatown Complex in Singapore. Chan was awarded a Michelin Star last year.
Customers waited up to two hours in line on the Melbourne outlet’s first day, reports 7News Melbourne, with 200 meals being sold. The eatery’s signature sauce is mixed by a chef in a locked room in Singapore before being shipped to Australia.
Broadsheet Melbourne says the restaurant seats up to 92 people, and does not offer table service or reservations. As well as its famous chicken dish it also serves roast pork, char siew or pork rib, with rice or noodles.
