Amazon Group has two-step strategy for Vietnam

Online retail giant Amazon Group has its eye on Vietnam for its next expansion in Southeast Asia.

Meeting with the Vietnam e-Commerce Association (VECOM) last week, the group revealed a two-step strategy for Vietnam.

As well as exporting goods to Vietnam, it also wants to help Vietnamese small and medium enterprises sell Vietnamese goods overseas, says VECOM president Nguyen Thanh Hung.

Amazon’s move follows Chinese online giant Alibaba acquiring a controlling stake in Lazada Group last year with the aim of making Lazada the leading e-commerce site in Vietnam. Then last month Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com invested US$44 million into Vietnamese e-commerce company Tiki.
