Jurong Point ‘scam’ catches shoppers on the hop

Shoppers ordering hugely discounted branded shoes from a booth at Jurong Point were surprised to find it was actually a “scam”, and that the sellers were from the police.

Saying they were from a new company, the staff at the booth told shoppers they could buy “any brand and any size” of shoes for $30, reports the Straits Times.

It was all part of an anti-scam campaign by the police to warn shoppers to be cautious if a deal sounds too good to be true. Those who wanted to sign up for shoes were taken to a nearby room where a video on e-commerce scams was being screened.
