Old Chang Kee goes back to origins

Old Chang Kee has opened a flagship coffee house on its original stall site in Mackenzie Road, opposite Rex Cinema.

It offers patrons both signature and new exclusive dishes such as flower bread with curry chicken or stew, and beef stew rice served in an old-school mess tin.

A Hainanese hawker set up the snack chain’s first stall 62 years ago, and 30 years later the business was bought and expanded by current executive chairman Han Keen Juan.

As well as its heritage-themed setting with vintage furnishings, the eatery features the classic Old Chang Kee counter where patrons can savour food items from affiliated brands such as soft buns from Bun Times and deep-fried finger food from Curry Times. The chain now has 90 outlets across Singapore, as well as stores in Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia.
