US fast-food chain A&W is about to make a return to Singapore after an absence of more than a decade.

The first new A&W Singapore restaurant, serving its trademark draught root beer, root beer floats and burgers, will open at Jewel, the new shopping centre under construction at Changi Airport.

Managed by CapitaLand in partnership with Changi Airport, Jewel is scheduled to open next year.

Another US burger restaurant, Shake Shack, known for more up-market fare, is also expected to open at Jewel as CapitaLand and Changi Airport management seek to recruit new brands and experiences to the city. Local seafood restaurant group Jumbo will open as well, according to the Sunday Times newspaper, which quoted “industry insiders”.  The paper also reported that Shaw Theatres will open a multi-screen cinema complex at Jewel, targeting travellers and locals alike.

A list of tenants who have already signed for space in the 10-storey commercial development is expected to be released within weeks.
