Chanel makeup for men to debut in South Korea

Chanel makeup for men is set to be launched in Asia.

The new product range – which includes a lip balm, tint and eyebrow pencil – will hit the shelves in South Korea next month, and be available online from November before going into stores next year.

The line’s branding, “Boy de Chanel”, is a pun on the name of label founder Gabrielle Chanel’s lover, Boy Chapel.

In a press release, the company said the line “draws inspiration from the women’s world to write the vocabulary of a new personal aesthetic for men… Lines, colours, attitudes, gestures… There is no absolutely feminine or masculine prerequisite: Style alone defines the person we wish to be.”

While makeup has never been solely the domain of women, a number of cosmetics brands have recently been explicit in acknowledging the use of makeup by men with male models being more commonly used in advertising campaigns.
