Police swoop on shoplifters and online scammers

Local police have accused 20 people of committing e-commerce crimes and a massive clothing theft.

A mid-September operation by the Jurong Police Division identified 16 suspects involved in e-commerce scams that cheated victims of over $200,000 across 51 cases.

The various scams involved the sale of motorcycle parts, K-pop merchandise, mobile phones, fake tickets and fake investment schemes. Four suspects are believed to have been involved in cases of cheating and criminal breach of trust. The offences carry a punishment of imprisonment for up to 10 years and a fine.

In a separate case, four members of a foreign crime syndicate were arrested for allegedly stealing more than 800 lingerie and clothing items from shops across the island, including from Uniqlo, altogether worth $26,000. If convicted, they can be jailed up to seven years.
