Freitag opens first branded store in China

Recycled tarpaulin bag manufacturer Freitag has opened its first branded store in China.

The store, which opens to the public this week, is launched in partnership with local reseller Harbook+ in Shanghai.

At a pre-opening party, fans of the brand were encouraged to make their own bags out of Swiss upcycled truck tarpaulin. The brand recycles more than 400 tonnes of truck tarp each year to produce backpacks, smartphone cases, wallets and other products, which are sold at hundreds of locations globally.

The two-storey, 150sqm Shanghai store was designed by Tokyo-based architect IIA Atelier. Its style is somewhat industrial, reflecting the nature of the business and in keeping with the brand’s store designs internationally.

More than 1000 products will be stocked in the store, which will also feature a repair counter.
