Hyundai opens duty-free store in Gangnam

Hyundai Department Store is opening its first duty-free store in Gangnam, the world-famous district of southern Seoul.

The store is set to open in Hyundai’s Coex department store, covering three of its upper levels. It will trade in cosmetics, luxury fashions, and electronic goods.

Prior to opening, Hyundai intends to sign with Chinese trip-planning platform Mafengwo on a promotion to attract Chinese tourists to visit the Korean capital. The online platform has 150 million users with an average 140,000 posts per month on travel topics.

The retail giant won its license to operate in the duty free sector at the end of 2016, the last of South Korea’s top three retailers to do so.
