Hema Supermarket chain set to reach 100 stores

Alibaba’s Hema Supermarket chain is set to reach 100 stores in China by next month.

Hema – a digitised retail store allowing shoppers to buy food, eat in or order home delivery via the Hema mobile app – serves as a function of Alibaba’s plans to converge online and offline shopping experiences.

“By next month, we will have 100 Hema stores,” said Hema CEO Hou Yi. “Hema is the first retail store where all products can be bought offline and online.”

The chain currently operates 91 stores, and will open the remaining nine by December 12, targeting Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities.
