September Singapore retail sales rose by 1.8 per cent year on year, excluding motor vehicles.
Month-on-month, sales were stable, moving down by a mere 0.1 per cent.
Total retail sales by value in September were S$3.6 billion and online comprised 4.9 per cent of those.
By category, sales of watches and jewellery grew by 7.4 per cent, due partly to higher demand for watches.
According to Statistics Singapore, several other categories also reported higher sales during this period, including medical goods and toiletries (up 3.3 per cent), and apparel and footwear (up 3 per cent).
Sales of computer and telecommunications equipment and of optical goods and books decreased by 5.8 per cent and 3.1 per cent respectively.
Sales of food and beverage services increased by 1.3 per cent year on year. Broken down, fast-food outlet and restaurant sales rose 5.9 per cent and 4 per cent respectively, but food caterers recorded a sales decline of 8.9 per cent.
