Melbourne designers on show at PMQ pop up

Seven emerging Melbourne designers are having their works featured in a retail pop-up alongside three new Hong Kong designers as part of Business of Design Week at PMQ.
The First Peoples fashion exhibition is a highlight of the largest-ever international presentation of fashion by Melbourne designers, one of a series of exhibitions and events that showcase the breadth and innovation of Melbourne fashion design in Hong Kong.
The designs, curated by the Australian Fashion Council (AFC), convey a “uniqueness in their products and brand identity,” according to AFC board member Carla Woidt.
The AFC Curated programme serves to support young, independent designers who face competition with established global brands. The PMQ pop up is the AFC’s first showing of its retail concept overseas.
CEO of the AFC Dave Giles-Kaye said: “We’re a creative industry, so it’s critical for our future that we have new, exciting and energetic people coming through. One of the best ways for this to happen is by nurturing emerging designers.”
Visitors to the week-long pop-up that opened December 3 will have the opportunity to meet some of the Melbourne-based designers and buy items unavailable elsewhere.
