China Mobile names first Hong Kong malls with 5G

The first Hong Kong malls with 5G have been revealed by China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) and Sino Group.
The firm says the Grand Central and Olympian City developments will have a 5G network available for enhanced services for customers when the spectrum is officially released in Hong Kong. The 5G infrastructure has been included in residential space as well as the retail areas.
The two companies plan to present the first 5G experience showcase, The Future is Now,  at Central Atrium, Olympian City 2 from March 28 to 31. Olympian City 2 will also become the first shopping mall in Hong Kong to offer 5G public WiFi, powered by CMHK, enabling its visitors to experience the speed and connection of a 5G network.

The showcase comprises six experience zones to introduce the technology. Through exhibiting interactive products – including the “Invincible Janken Machine”, Smart Glasses and an autonomous vehicle – the showcase will help visitors understand more about 5G technology, including its benefits and the integral role it will play in daily life.
CMHK and Sino Group first signed a strategic memorandum of understanding last May, covering 5G infrastructure installation to support Hong Kong’s development into an international innovation and technology hub in addition to becoming a Smart City.
