Gome outlets planned for Carrefour stores

Gome outlets are set to be opened inside Carrefour hypermarkets across China.

The French supermarket retailer and the Hong Kong-listed electronics retailer forged a strategic alliance covering more than 200 supermarkets, with the Gome outlets set to be trading by the end of July.

The deal follows the successful trial of 11 stores-in-stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Wuxi. Both retail brands say they experienced “significant growth” in both sales and profit from the colocated stores.

“This strategic partnership between Carrefour China and Gome combines respective expertise of two retailers,” said Carrefour Asia president Thierry Garnier.

“We are confident in our alliance with Gome, and we believe this ‘shop-in-shop’ model will greatly benefit our customers.”

The new Gome outlets primarily sell household appliances, ranging from computers and smartphones to television sets.
