First Conran Shop in Seoul is UK brand’s biggest yet

The first Conran Shop in Seoul has opened – and it is the British luxury furniture and home accessories retailer’s largest store globally.

The South Korean store, located in Seoul’s popular Gangnam district, is a partnership with local conglomerate Lotte.

The 10-year deal will see the 3305sqm Conran store offering more than 300 designer brands such as Fritz Hansen and Vitra to a burgeoning lifestyle market that has grown almost 70 per cent over the past 10 years and is currently worth KRW12 trillion (US$10.28 billion). Plans are afoot to expand its offering throughout South Korea.

“The luxury market is in Korea is developing sophistication exponentially,” said Conran Shop CEO Hugh Wahla. “I think that the Korean landscape is changing rapidly with growing sophistication around design and what Conran does. We have a lot of synergies with the domestic market.”

Besides the Conran shop in Seoul, the company operates stores in the UK, France and Japan.
