Task force to review Singapore retail reopening plan

The roadmap towards a safe Singapore retail reopening is in the hands of a task force established by the Singapore Retailers Association and Restaurant Association of Singapore.

The group will be taking advice from Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Chee Hong Tat as it studies F&B outlets resuming operations during Singapore’s gradual reopening following the coronavirus pandemic. It is actively investigating measures to make resuming business safe.

Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing has said that restaurants and firms in the sector awaiting permission to reopen should actively prepare for resumption of business.

“Those in the retail sector with a high [business-to-consumer] touchpoint or F&B will need to start thinking about the new measures to put in place for a safe resumption of activities,” said Chan.

Clubs, cinemas and theatres may face significant changes to the way their businesses operate in future with Singapore retail reopening, even after the pandemic clears.

“We have been very encouraged that in the last one, two months, we have seen a lot of new initiatives whereby many companies and businesses adopted digital technologies to not only retain their business, but also expand their market share,” added Chan.
