Malaysia’s fledgling Big Bath plans major network expansion

Malaysian bathroom and kitchen specialist Big Bath has just nine stores so far – but it has plans to open 86 more through a franchising program.

The additional stores will be rolled out in both East and West Malaysia during the next three years, according to the company.

The retailer has recorded growing demand for bathroom and kitchen products since September despite the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. The company sees it as an opportunity to accelerate its expansion plan across the country.

Founder and director of Big Bath, Shane Mun, said the capital requirement to open a franchised store is about US$200,000, depending on the location. Despite the thriving online shopping trend, the company is remaining focused on brick-and-mortar stores to enhance the shopping experience of its customers.

Founded in 2010, Big Bath currently operates nine stores in Malaysia, with the latest opened just this month. It aims to list on Bursa Malaysia’s Main Market by 2027.
