Wuhan’s Chinese-language bookstore opens in Singapore

Wuhan’s famous The Zall Bookstore has opened Singapore’s first outlet on Orchard Road.

Located at the Wheelock Place mall, the store spans two stories, featuring more than 30,000 books, most of which are in Chinese. The Zall Bookstore Singapore houses an art gallery on the second floor, where artworks by Singapore-based artists like Boo Sze Yang and Justin Lee are showcased. The store also has a cafe serving drinks and pastries.

The Wuhan bookstore’s offerings include genres such as Chinese literature, history, humanities and philosophy. It also features a section on books about the Covid-19 pandemic.

The bookstore features black-and-white design inspired by Chinese painter Wu Guanzhong’s paintings, Landscape Of Jiangnan.

Founded in 2013 by Chinese writer Yan Zhi, The Zall Bookstore operates four 24-hour outlets in Hubei. Due to the pandemic restrictions in the city, the Singapore outlet will not operate round-the-clock.
