Ulta Beauty appoints new CEO
US beauty retailer Ulta Beauty has announced company president Dave Kimbell will succeed Mary Dillon as company CEO and will take on the role on June 2.
Kimbell, who joined Ulta as a chief marketing officer in 2014 and held other leadership positions before being named president in 2019, said thanks to Dillon’s outstanding leadership, the future is very bright at Ulta Beauty.
“Our dynamic business plays a unique and important role in the beauty industry and in our guests’ lives – and we are committed to continue operating with deep respect for that role while innovating and winning together,” he said.
Dillon served as CEO at Ulta Beauty for eight years and was credited with driving the company’s significant business growth. The company’s market capitalisation tripled to more than $18 billion and it delivered a total shareholder return of 245 per cent, according to Ulta.
She will transition to the role of executive chair of the board for a one-year term during which she will continue to guide strategy while supporting Kimball in his transition.
The company’s current chief store operations officer Kecia Steelman will be promoted to the role of chief operating officer.
Catch.com appoints new technology and product chief
Wesfarmers Group-owned retail website Catch.com has named former REA Group executive Tomas Varsavsky as its new chief product and technology officer.
Varsavsky will be leading Catch’s platform development as the company strengthens its momentum in the Australian market.
“[Catch has] tremendous ambition, a disruptive mindset and great backing behind them,” he said. “I’m looking forward to being part of their story.”
Prior to his 10-year stint at REA Group, Varsavsky was with ThoughtWorks as a principal consultant where he consulted for many organisations including AXA, Lonely Planet and ANZ on agile methodologies, software development, IT strategy and IT architecture.
In 2018 and again in 2019, he was listed as one of the top 50 CIOs in Australia by CIO magazine.
New managing director for Woolworths NZ
Woolworths New Zealand’s newly appointed managing director, Spencer Sonn, officially joined the company on March 17 after spending time in stores across the country getting to know the team and the wider business.
Sonn said he is excited to be taking on the new role and to continue to build on the strong foundations the leadership team have already put in place.
“The immense potential that this business has was one of the key things that attracted me to this position, and I’m looking forward to leading and supporting the team to help realise that,” he said.
In his previous role as food managing director at Woolworths Holdings in South Africa., he was responsible for the food and innovation portfolios across more than 400 supermarkets and 33,000 team members.
