Uniqlo takes over Superdry’s London flagship

Japan’s Fast Retailing is to open a mixed store on London’s Regent Street for its Uniqlo and Theory brands, taking over the space previously occupied by Superdry.

Scheduled to launch early next year, the shared retail space will span three floors and 1900sqm. While Uniqlo takes over the entire basement and first floor, Theory products will be displayed together with Uniqlo items on the ground floor.

“Regent Street and the UK hold a special significance to Fast Retailing,” said Tadashi Yanai, president and CEO of Fast Retailing. “It was one of the first Uniqlo stores we opened outside our home market Japan, back in 2001.”

“During these past 20 years we have raised our profile as a global apparel retailer, and in the UK market alone we now boast several stores.”

The Regent Street store also marks the first time for the two apparel brands to share retail space in the UK and across Europe. Moreover, the expanded head offices for the companies’ European and UK operations will also be located three floors above the store.
