Preface mixes coffee, wine & food tech in Hong Kong flagship

Hong Kong’s Preface Coffee & Wine opens its first flagship store in the heart of Causeway Bay on Sunday, following its Tin Hau and Central branches.

Spanning 5500sqft, the four-storey flagship store features a multi-functional space combining coffee, wine, technology workshop and lifestyle.

“The flagship store aims to reshape the culture of coffee and fine wine and become a place where knowledge and a love of coding can become part of everyone’s daily ritual, just like our future,” the company said in a statement.

Resembling of “an American Silicon Valley coffee shop”, the store design follows a minimalistic style, using white tones, transparent elements and wooden furniture.

The flagship offers coffee made from a selection of beans, such as house-blend, seasonal selections and exclusive local roastery. The brand uses big data to predict coffee trends, review its carbon footprint, and provide customers with seasonal flavours. Meanwhile, ingredients for the food menu are sourced locally and prepared through sustainable cooking methods.

The store transforms into a bar after sundown, serving a selection of fine wines made by biodynamic farming.

“What Hong Kongers need is space,” says Tommie Lo, founder and CEO of Preface. “Preface Coffee & Wine hopes by expanding during hard times, the space will become a universe for a collection of creativity.

“Customers can spend the time to get a cup of coffee to enrich themselves with new technological knowledge. This way, coffee consumers will become creators of digital technology, which allows them to shine bright and move forward with the times.”

Preface Coffee & Wine Causeway Bay will hold a series of workshops taught by programming instructors, illustrating popular technologies such as AI, NFT, Metaverse and more. The flagship store will also hold technology seminars and future cultural exhibitions with international companies, making technology more accessible.
