In 1986, Venessa and Elio Nappa opened their very first salon in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney. Fast forward almost 40 years later, and it’s now a multimillion dollar business run by their sons Anthony and Guy Nappa, who began working in the business as children. In honour of International Women’s Day, we had a very special interview with Venessa, Anthony and Guy, to discuss what it was like growing up in the family business and the incredible insights they learnt from their mother.&

“When there is conflict in the salon…You always got to nip it in the bud early. As we’ve gone on to grow and have quite a bit of staff, I’ve learnt that’s a really good piece of advice,” said Guy. “Conflict delayed is conflict multiplied and even today, I’ve seen mum go all the way into the city, just to have a 5 minute meeting with someone, just so it’s clear that we’re one team and everyone needs to sing from the same hymn sheet.
“That piece of advice has really stuck with me. It’s really, really powerful.”
