Philippine fast-food operator, Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures, is expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, opening its first Singapore restaurant at Lucky Plaza Mall.

The Singapore launch marks the brand’s second international venture after the UAE, where it has four restaurants. Shakey’s Singapore was brought into the city by local food court operator Brenrich through a seven-year franchise agreement signed last year.

“Guests have been in high anticipation since we announced the coming of Shakey’s,” said Wong Bang Ming, director at Brenrich.

“As we continue to scale up our store network, we hope that this will serve as a springboard for international growth,” said Vicente Gregorio, president and CEO at Shakey’s Pizza.

The Singapore store launch follows Shakey’s Pizza’s expansion program last year, which saw the opening of more than 30 stores across the Philippines and UAE under several store formats, including ghost kitchens, multi-branded stores, and drive-thru concepts.

“The operating environment for the past two years has been tough. We had to make strategic pivots to turn the business around, but all the while, we kept our eyes on the prize – sustainable long-term growth,” said Gregorio.

The 40-year-old company owns charcoal-grilled chicken brand Peri-Peri and the Philippines master franchise of R&B Milk Tea. Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures has also recently acquired 100-per-cent ownership of Singaporean firm, PC International, which owns and operates Potato Corner in Singapore.
