Sporting goods retailer Alpen will launch its largest flagship store yet in Shinjuku, Tokyo, tomorrow, (April 1).

The store comprises about 3700sqm spread over five floors, with dedicated sections for camping and outdoor gear, golf, tennis, water sports and baseball equipment.

Atsushi Mizuno, president of Alpen said: “There is potential in the city centre because our market share is low. It will be an opportunity to meet many new customers.”

To mark the company’s 50th anniversary, the Alpen Tokyo store will hold two sales, the first between April 1 and April 11 and the second from April 15 to April 25.

The Tokyo store aims to sell approximately 350,000 sports and outdoor items during the sales, including tents, running shoes, golf equipment and other accessories.

Founded in 1972, the company achieved sales of US$1.9 billion last year. Besides its retail business, the company manages ski resorts, golf courses and fitness clubs.
