Ikea launches employee carpooling trial with Liftango

To encourage sustainable commuting habits, Ikea will trial an international carpooling program in partnership with Liftango.

Employees across Australia, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Canada can use the Ride2Work app to carpool to work from June 27 (Monday). They can monitor the number of kilometres or miles driven, the CO2 reduction achieved, and access contact tracing and safety features where necessary.

Daniela Pichler, Ikea Australia’s meet and travel head, said “healthy and sustainable living” is a key focus area for the company.

“The Ride2Work employee-carpool program will encourage thousands of Ikea coworkers to think about ways they can reduce their environmental impact, whilst having positive interactions with colleagues on the way to and from work.”

Liftango’s CEO, Kevin Orr, said there is a “hesitancy” to use public transportation post-pandemic.

“Allowing employees of these particular Ikea stores to carpool with verified colleagues will give many employees peace of mind while ensuring that sustainability through ridesharing is still a core focus.”

Based on the success of the trial, the company will roll out the program to 500 Ikea stores globally.
