Reliance Retail launches new fashion department store format

Reliance Retail has rolled out a new fashion and lifestyle department store concept dubbed ‘Reliance Centro’, aiming to expand its reach to mid-high income customers and democratise fashion in India.

The first Reliance Centro store, spanning 75,000sqft, has opened its doors in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. The new format will be home to a selection of apparel, cosmetics, lingerie, luggage, footwear and accessories from more than 300 local and international fashion brands.

Reliance Retail’s Centro format will take over Future Group’s Central locations following the transfer of ownership of more than 200 Big Bazaar stores, 34 Central stores and 78 Brand Factory stores to the former after Future Group defaulted on payments for renewing leases earlier this year.

Reliance Retail is a subsidiary of Reliance Retail Venture Ltd (RRVL), which owns a portfolio of fashion and lifestyle brands, including Abraham & Thakore and Clovia. The company was recently reported to be in talks to take over the rights for LVMH-owned beauty retailer Sephora from Arvind Fashions.

The company earlier this year signed a long-term franchise deal with Gap after the American fashion brand parted ways with Arvind Fashions in 2020.
