US furniture and homewares retailer Crate and Barrel is set to withdraw from Singapore this month after 10 years in the city-state, the company disclosed on social media on Monday.

Crate and Barrel’s last day of operation will be on May 31. Its sister brand CB2 will also exit the market on the same day. Until then, the brand’s online business and the Ion Orchard store will remain operating with a clearance sale offering discounts of up to 40 per cent.

According to The Straits Times, the closure of Crate and Barrel in Singapore was due to the termination of a franchise partnership. The US headquarters did not renew the agreement and has no plan to return to the market.

Crate and Barrel entered Singapore in 2013, opening its first store at Ion Orchard. The two-storey store was also the brand’s first location in Asia. The home furnishing retailer closed another 25,000sqft flagship store in Orchard Gateway@Emerald in 2019.
