Such was the success of the inaugural NRF 2024: Retail’s Big Show Asia Pacific held in Singapore earlier this month, already exhibitors are rebooking, with 60 per cent of these exhibitors already committed to next year. Bookings for 2025 open July 1.

More than 5000 retailers from 52 countries – as far afield as Brazil and Africa – attended the event, run by the US National Retail Federation (NRF) and global event organiser Comexposium. Held over three days from June 11 to 13, it hosted 238 exhibitors at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Marina Bay.

Themed ‘Fast Track Your Success’, NRF 2024: Retail’s Big Show Asia Pacific featured a lineup of more than 100 speakers from some of the world’s leading retail brands, including 7-Eleven, Aeon Group, Central Retail Corporation, Domino’s, Fast Retailing (parent of Uniqlo), Hermes, Mastercard, Moet Hennessy, Puma, Lotte Corporation, and Wumart.

Session themes ranged from the adoption of AI and other leading-edge technologies to elevating the customer experience and strategies for brands wanting to adjust to changing consumer spending behaviour.

“The warm and favourable reception we have received from the retail communities spanning across India, Japan, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and New Zealand strongly indicates a significant demand for a pan-regional retail event,” said Ryf Quail, MD of NRF 2024: Retail’s Big Show Asia Pacific, Comexposium.

“The energy and enthusiasm from participants have been incredible, underscoring the dynamic and evolving nature of the retail industry in the region. We are proud to provide a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and innovation that drives the industry forward.”

‘A pivotal platform’

Exhibitor feedback was superlative.

“NRF 2024: Retail’s Big Show Asia Pacific met our expectations as an exhibitor in areas of attendance, thought leadership and influence,” said Mette Krogh, CMO at Relex Solutions. “It’s clear that this event is a pivotal platform for driving the future of retail, fostering meaningful connections and sparking transformative ideas.

“We are looking forward to leveraging the invaluable insights and connections gained at the event to propel our initiatives for Asia Pacific forward.”

Speakers and delegates were equally inspired by the conference sessions.

“As a speaker, I was impressed by the breadth of topics covered and the depth of expertise shared at the conference,” said Xu Ying, president of Wumei Technology Group, parent of Chinese grocery chain Wumart.

“The showcase of retail solutions at the expo, and the exchange of innovative ideas and best practices, have left a lasting impact. NRF 2024: Retail’s Big Show Asia Pacific has not only set a new standard for industry events but also solidified its influence as a cornerstone for retail thought leadership and innovation.”

Among many highlights was the NRF Innovation Lab, which showcased visionary retail technologies available to retailers today. Attendees had the opportunity to experience first-hand the advancements in areas such as AI, augmented reality, data analytics and Web3, which were set to power the new retail in the digital age.

On the Mastercard stand, an interactive virtual reality display imagined how consumers might shop for home furnishings at an Ikea store. Guests could don an Oculus headset and use a hand control to select items of furniture in a virtual showroom – such as a coffee table – select different colours and see how they worked with other furnishings. They could also interact with a virtual store associate who oversaw measuring a customer’s size, golfing stance and level of expertise before making customised product recommendations.

NRF 2025: Retail’s Big Show Asia Pacific will return next year from June 3-5 at the same venue. Retail professionals, technology innovators, and industry stakeholders are encouraged to mark their calendars and join the largest and most influential retail conference in the Asia-Pacific region.

Comexposium says next year’s event will build on the success of this year’s, with even more visionary speakers, pioneering technologies, and unparalleled networking opportunities.
