Japan’s largest furniture and home-furnishing retailer Nitori is expanding into India, with its planned opening at Runwal’s R City Mall in Ghatkopar.

The Nitori store will open on the third floor of the R City Mall over the next couple of months, India Retailing reported.

“We are accelerating our store openings within the Asian region and had realised the first store in Thailand, Hong Kong, Korea and Vietnam last year,” said Masanori Takeda, EVP and GM of global merchandising division at Nitori.

“Our goal is to operate 2000 overseas stores and to achieve an annual overseas sales equivalent of 1 trillion yen by 2032,” Takeda added.

As of March, the retail reached the 1000-store mark in Japan and operated about 180 locations in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam.
