Hongkong Post will no longer process parcel shipments containing goods to the US, following the latter’s decision to revoke duty-free de minimis treatment for postal items from Hong Kong and increased tariffs.
“The US is unreasonable, bullying and imposing tariffs abusively,” the company said in a statement.
“Hongkong Post will definitely not collect any so-called tariffs on behalf of the US and will suspend the acceptance of postal items containing goods destined to the US.
“For sending items to the US, the public in Hong Kong should be prepared to pay exorbitant and unreasonable fees due to the US’s unreasonable and bullying acts,” said the postal service.
Meanwhile, customers who have already sent parcels that have not yet been dispatched will be contacted after Tuesday to arrange for the return of goods and a refund of postage fees.
Hongkong Post will also suspend air mail shipments of goods bound for the US, though it has not yet confirmed the specific start date.
However, postal items containing only documents will continue to be accepted and processed as usual.
